Youth@Work: Every Young Person Who Wanted, Applied For A Job, Got One
Nearly 750 young people start work at over 100 sites across the city, part of New Haven's Youth@Work summer employment program.
NEW HAVEN, CT — This week, nearly 750 young people are beginning employment at over 100 worksites across the city, part of the city’s Youth@Work summer employment program providing a summer job to every New Haven young person who applied for, and wanted one.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and city Youth, Recreation Director Gwendolyn B. Williams and other city and state leaders highlighted the beginning of the program Wednesday. The program was celebrated at Hill Regional Career High School, which serves as a site for Ready, Inc., a local nonprofit organization employing twenty youth as counselors there to help support their summer camp program.
The public-private partnership aims to provide meaningful employment opportunities and workplace exposure for New Haven residents and/or New Haven Public School students ages 14 to 21 years old, with placements at such locations as summer camps, nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and city government.
