New Milford Joins Suit Against Pharmaceutical Companies: Report

The suit aims to hold companies accountable for their roles in the opioid crisis.

NEW MILFORD, CT — Joining Waterbury and 10 New York counties, New Milford filed suit which aims to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for their roles in the opioid crisis, reports the New Milford Spectrum. The law firm Simons Hanley Conroy told Town Council the suit would force the companies to help pay for the consequences of the epidemic.

Town Attorney John Tower told Town Council there would be no risk for the town financially. Other elected leaders in Danbury and Ridgefield are considering joining the suit.

The effort was initiated by Waterbury mayor Neil O'Leary. Four heroin overdose deaths were reported in town in 2013, five in 2014 and six in 2015.
