62nd Newtown Labor Day Parade Steps Off Monday

The 62nd Newtown Labor Day Parade will step off from Main Street at Currituck Road Monday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m.

NEWTOWN, CT — The largest Labor Day celebration in New England is once again in Newtown.

The 62nd Newtown Labor Day Parade will step off from Main Street at Currituck Road Monday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m.

Parking will be available at Big Y, Caraluzzi’s Market, and St. Rose School. Shuttle buses will leave from St. Rose School.

Marchers will travel south down Glover Avenue, turn left onto Queen Street, and end their parade at the intersection of Queen Street and Church Hill Road.

The Newtown Police Department is advising motorists that Main Street and many connecting roads will be closed on Monday for the parade. Streets will close officially at 9:30 a.m., but spectators and participants should expect heavy delays beginning at 8:00 a.m., police posted on social media.

Over 70 bands and organizations will be participating in the parade.

The theme of the 2024 edition of the parade is "Garden of Plenty." Grand Marshals will be Sue and Jim Shortt, of Shortt’s Farm in Newtown.
