UPDATE: Barricaded Newtown Woman Taken Into Custody After Standoff
The investigation by the Newtown Police Department shut down two roads in the area on Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE: A 26-year-old Newtown woman was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a standoff at a residence near the intersection of Park Lane and Greenbriar Lane, according to police.
Newtown officers responded around 2 p.m. to assist the state Department of Children and Families with an investigation. The Western Regional Emergency Services Unit and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded to the scene.
Police said the woman, identified as Samantha Rivera, barricaded herself inside the home after the other occupants had exited safely. Officers remained outside and attempted to negotiate with her. The investigation shut down foot and motor traffic in the area.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Rivera fled the residence on foot and was taken into custody. She was taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a laceration sustained before her apprehension. One regional officer sustained a minor injury during the encounter.
Police emphasized that all responding units acted professionally and compassionately to resolve the situation safely.

The incident is isolated to a single residence near the intersection of both roads, and there is no danger to the public, according to police, who are asking residents to avoid the area. The investigation has been ongoing since 2 p.m. Tuesday.
