'America's Funniest Videos' Beats America's Most Repulsive Conspiracy Theorist
The announcement of the interview attracted a ton of attention, but few actually watched the live broadcast.

NEWTOWN, CT — While the prospects of an interview with notorious Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist Alex Jones sparked severe backlash against NBC and host Megn Kelly, relatively few people took the time to actually watch the interview. According to multiple media reports, Kelly's interview with Jones, the radio host and owner of the Infowars web site owner, attracted 3.5 million viewers, the lowest in the show's three-episode history.
The show fewer viewers than reruns of "America's Funniest Home Videos" and "60 Minutes" in the key 18-49 demographic.
In addition to low ratings, NBC News temporarily lost several advertisers who turned and ran upon hearing news of the interview. JP Morgan's withdrawal from the interview was the lone company made public, but reports indicated several companies jumped ship as well.

During the interview. Kelly pressed Jones on many of the wild conspiracy theories he has pushed, including the false idea that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax. While softening many of his original claims, Kelly said, Jones never completely disavowed his statements. Jones tried to pivot to other topics when Kelly asked him about his false claim that "parents faked their children's death."
"That pattern: reckless accusation, followed by equivocations and excuses is classic Alex Jones," said Kelly during the 7 p.m. broadcast of NBC's news magazine, "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly."

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting resulted in the death of 20 students and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut, on Dec. 14, 2012. The shooting was the deadliest mass shooting at a high school or grade school in U.S. history.
The interview largely focused on the growing audience of the conspiracist's website, Infowars, and Jones' relationship with President Donald Trump, who has stated the radio host has "an amazing reputation.
Multiple reports indicate ratings for "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly" have slid since the news magazine garnered 6.3 million viewers for an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Citing Al Tompkins of the Poynter Institute, Forbes reports Kelly will need to boost the ratings of this show in order to ensure her long-term success.
However, several in the media supported Kelly's efforts and lauded her for the report.
