It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of the Honorable William J. Lavery, a cherished member of the Newtown community. William, who passed away on November 14th, leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering commitment to both Newtown and the state of Connecticut.
William was a respected attorney in Newtown and a dedicated public servant, known for his active involvement in local affairs. He served on the board of the Newtown Scholarship Association, the Cyrenius H. Booth Library Board of Trustees, and was actively engaged in St. Rose of Lima Parish, as well as the Men's Literary and Social Club of Newtown, to name just a few of his many contributions. His distinguished legal career included being appointed to the Superior Court by Governor Ella T. Grasso, serving as Chief Judge of the Connecticut Appellate Court in 2000, and as Chief Court Administrator. His dedication to improving the lives of others will never be forgotten.

William had a rare ability to connect with people, offering guidance, support, and a listening ear to all who crossed has path. Above all, Willlam was a devoted family man and friend. His kindness, generosity, and deep love for his family were central to everything he did. He will be remembered for his selflessness, his warmth, and his constant commitment to making Newtown a better place for all who lived here.
The Lavery family is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I extend my deepest condolences to them. William’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to work with him and learn from him.
