Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary Announces Free Upcoming Workshops

The sanctuary invites community members to take part in "Night Flight" and "Settle in the Sanctuary" workshops in October and November.

NEWTOWN, CT - The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary will hold two free workshops in the upcoming months.

October 16th - Night Flight

Explore the world that awakens when we sleep. Workshops will focus on bats and owls and provide an understanding of their behavior. A night hike for those who dare will deconstruct the myths around the scariest of scary.

Join us for free workshops, pumpkin painting, pack a picnic or just enjoy the day with a hike at the Sanctuary. Our workshops focus on the world that awakens while we sleep and the autumnal season.

9:00 am Family Yoga – Begin your day under the pavilion with Heather Morgado, certified Yoga instructor, as she leads a family yoga session. Please bring a yoga mat.

1:00 pm Bats 101 – Join Linda Bowen, DEEP US Fish & Wildlife Rehabilitator, as she shares the facts and dispels the myths of these beautiful and misunderstood creatures. Participants will
follow a bat’s life from tiny pup to adulthood, learn about the White Nose Syndrome that is threatening the species, and discover tips for preserving our remaining bat populations.

2:00 pm Autumnal Botanical Arrangements – By pairing store bought elements with autumnal treasures found in most back yards, Master Gardener, Laura King, will teach how to create stunning autumnal displays for the season of giving. While caregivers create, children are invited to embellish spooktacular pumpkins. (Limited to 20 participants and a $25 arrangement material fee requested.)

5 – 7:30 pm Owl Prowl – Ben Sonnenberg from Livingston Ripley Waterfowl Conservatory will be bringing Poppy the Barn Owl and Camo the Eurasian Eagle Owl to the Sanctuary! Participants will learn owl adaptations and natural history before setting out with wildlife educator Henryk Teraszkiewicz in search of wild CT owls that call the Sanctuary home.

November 27th - Settle in the sanctuary

You're invited to help us button up the sanctuary for winter. Whether building bunny bungalows for our New England cotton tails, creating and hanging biodegradable feeders or scattering hay bales to help provide warmth for wildlife, participants will learn ways to support native wildlife in their own backyards.
