Catherine's Butterfly Party Returns To Newtown

The free pet adoption and family festival returns to Newtown's Fairfield Hills Campus.

NEWTOWN, CT — Catherine’s Butterfly Party, a free family festival and large-scale pet adoption event, will return for its ninth year on June 7 at the Fairfield Hills Campus in Newtown.

Hosted by the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, the event runs from noon to 4 p.m. and features more than 25 animal rescue organizations offering over 200 adoptable animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and horses. The festival also includes educational exhibits, live entertainment, food trucks, face painting, and children’s activities.

The annual event honors the memory of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a first grader who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The celebration of compassion and community is held near what would have been her birthday.

“We are so excited to welcome back Catherine’s Butterfly Party this summer and gather again with the community in celebration of Catherine’s life and the animals she loved so much,” said Jenny Hubbard, president of the sanctuary and Catherine’s mother.

Thanks to corporate sponsors, the event is free to the public and to participating rescue groups.

The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is located at 8 Primrose Street on 34 acres in Newtown and offers hiking trails, a pollinator habitat, and educational programming. The sanctuary also operates the Senior Paw Project, providing support to elderly pet owners in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

More information is available at the animal sanctuary's website.
