Salon Offers Sandy Hook Green Nail Polish

A local salon is honoring Sandy Hook families in their own way: by offering a new shade of green nail polish, developed by national nail polish company OPI, in tribute to the Sandy Hook community.

Ricci's Salon and Spa, at 99 South Main Street, will offer the color at their Salon-a-Thon event this Sunday. Sandy Hook Green is meant to support the victims and their families, says owner Liz Ricci, and bottles will be available at the event with proceeds going to Sandy Hook Promise.

"It's a special color you can't get in the store," she says. The idea came about from two clients -- Dana Schicker and Jennifer Stoltz -- who contacted nail polish company OPI to develop the limited-edition shade.

"They called us and said, 'Will you help us?' Ricci says.

Ricci says the shade, which features the Sandy Hook Promise logo, is meant to honor the 26 families and take a stand against violence.

Sandy Hook Promise is a Newtown-based organization that seeks solutions to gun violence and support for the families of victims lost in the shooting. OPI is a national company that manufactures nail products for salons, according to their website.

The Salon-a-Thon takes place Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
