CTDOT Plans Pedestrian Safety Upgrades At 3 Newtown Intersections

NEWTOWN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation is planning pedestrian safety upgrades at three intersections in Newtown.

Route 25 at State Road 860 (Mile Hill Road), Route 25 at Meadow Brook Hill Road and Botsford Hill Road, and Route 25 at Button Shop Road and Plaza Driveway in Newtown are all scheduled for upgrades as part of a larger statewide project to improve accessibility and walkability at 24 intersections across western Connecticut.

According to CTDOT, the work will include new pedestrian countdown signal heads, accessible push buttons, improved sidewalks and ramps, new signage, and updated pavement markings designed to enhance safety for people walking or using mobility devices.

The Newtown intersections are among several in Fairfield and Litchfield counties slated for improvement, alongside locations in Canton, East Granby, New Hartford, New Milford, Bethel, North Canaan, Oxford, Sherman, Southbury, Waterbury, and Watertown.

Project design is expected to be completed in March 2028, with construction anticipated to begin in the fall of that year, pending funding and required environmental and right-of-way approvals. The project will be financed through 90% federal and 10% state funds.
