Newtown Police Log: Attempted Package Theft Case, Utility Pole Strike, Crashes
Newtown Police reported a package-theft case, a utility pole strike, and several vehicle crashes in early December.
NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown Police released a series of criminal and incident reports from late April through early December, detailing an attempted package theft, a utility pole strike, and numerous motor vehicle crashes across town.
Attempted Package Theft on Queen Street
Police said officers were called to Queen Street on April 22 after a FedEx delivery driver reported that a man tried to forcibly take packages from him. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the individual fled the area. Detectives later identified David Del Rosario Encarnacion, 36, of Reading, PA, with assistance from New York State Police. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit second- and fourth-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit third-degree robbery, and second-degree breach of peace. Encarnacion was unable to post bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court.
Utility Pole Struck on Riverside Road
On Dec. 10, a Toyota Tundra traveling east on Riverside Road crossed the center line, left the roadway, and struck a Frontier Communications utility pole, snapping it in half. Police said William Brusca Jr., 58, of Sandy Hook, was later identified as the driver. No injuries were reported. Brusca was charged with evading responsibility, operating without minimum insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

Rear-End Collision on Church Hill Road
A Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the rear of a stopped Honda Accord Hybrid on Church Hill Road near Connors Road on Dec. 10. One driver reported back soreness but declined medical treatment at the scene. Police issued a written warning for following too closely.
Intersection Crash on Hattertown Road
Two vehicles collided at the four-way stop at Hattertown Road and Key Rock Road on Dec. 9. Police said conflicting accounts prevented officers from determining fault. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles sustained functional damage.

Black Ice Crash on Poverty Hollow Road
A Subaru traveling north on Poverty Hollow Road struck a patch of black ice on Dec. 4, crossed into the southbound lane, and hit a tree before coming to rest across the roadway. The driver was taken to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. Police issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Parking Lot Collision on Church Hill Road
On Dec. 6, a Nissan Pathfinder entering the gas pump area at 67 Church Hill Road made contact with a parked Ford Bronco Sport. No injuries were reported, and police took no enforcement action because the incident occurred on private property.
Parking Lot Crash on Glen Road
A Toyota Highlander backing out of a parking space at 6 Glen Road on Dec. 5 struck a parked Jeep Wrangler. Police reported only minor damage and no injuries.
Driveway Crash on Russett Road
A Ford Transit van backing up a driveway on Russett Road on Dec. 5 struck a parked Mercedes-Benz. Both vehicles were damaged, but no injuries were reported. No enforcement action was taken due to the crash occurring on private property.
Disorderly Conduct Case in Sandy Hook
Police said Garth Lawrence Facey, 60, of Sandy Hook, was taken into custody on Dec. 14 following an incident at a Tomahawk Trail residence. Facey was charged with disorderly conduct and scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Dec. 15.
Rear-End Crash at Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road
Two vehicles traveling east on Wasserman Way collided at Berkshire Road on Dec. 10 after the lead vehicle stopped while preparing to turn right on red. Police said the trailing vehicle failed to stop and struck it from behind. No injuries were reported. The driver of the trailing vehicle received a verbal warning for following too closely.
Parking Lot Collision on Mt. Pleasant Road
A Jeep Grand Cherokee backing out of a parking space on Mt. Pleasant Road on Dec. 6 struck the front bumper of a parked Lexus. No one was injured, and neither vehicle required towing. Both sustained minor damage, police said.
Rear-End Crash on Berkshire Road Near Sherman Street
Police reported a rear-end collision on Berkshire Road on Dec. 11 after traffic slowed. No injuries were reported. The driver of the trailing vehicle was cited for failing to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to the report.
Hit-And-Run Sideswipe on Currituck Road
An unknown vehicle swerved into the northbound lane of Currituck Road near Stony Brook Road on Dec. 13, striking the sideview mirror of a BMW traveling in the opposite direction. The striking vehicle left the scene. No injuries were reported, and enforcement remains pending the investigation.
Utility Pole And Stone Wall Struck Near Obtuse Road
On the night of Dec. 13, an Infiniti traveling north on Obtuse Road left its lane near Currituck Road, struck a stone wall, then hit a Frontier Communications utility pole. Police said the driver sustained suspected minor injuries and was evaluated by EMS. The vehicle was towed, and infractions were issued for traveling too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, and operating without a license.
Deer Collision on Berkshire Road
A Kia Forte traveling east on Berkshire Road struck a deer on Dec. 13, disabling the vehicle. No injuries were reported, and police issued no enforcement. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
