Police have charged a motorist in the accidental death of a dog, killed on Main Street.

NEWTOWN, CT — Police have charged a motorist in the accidental death of a dog, killed on Main Street.

On Dec. 13, the Newtown Police Department was notified of a white SUV that had struck a dog on Main Street. The car left the scene after stopping briefly, according to police.

Officers made contact with the motorist ten days later, as the driver left his contact information with a veterinarian's office when he called to inquire about the dog, police said.

Police charged the motorist with failure to grant right of way at a crosswalk, and failure to report the death of the dog.
