DUI, Reckless Driving, Top Newtown Police Arrest Log For Feb. 19-25

NEWTOWN, CT — A New York resident was arrested in Newtown on Feb. 24 after violating a restraining order while police assisted an animal control officer investigating a dog bite incident, authorities said.

According to the Newtown Police Department, officers were called to a residence to provide backup for an animal control officer who was looking into an earlier dog bite. The officer requested police presence after one of the dog’s owners, identified as Daniel Morris, of Bernhart Road in Wallkill, NY, became uncooperative.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Morris had an active restraining order prohibiting him from being at the residence. He was taken into custody and charged with violation of a criminal restraining order and third-degree criminal trespass, police said.

Morris was released on a $70 cash bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Feb. 25.

Newtown Police Arrest Driver Found Slumped Behind Wheel for DUI

A 20-year-old Danbury man was arrested for driving under the influence after police found him slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the Newtown Police Department, officers responded to a health and welfare call at approximately 8:04 a.m. on Feb. 23 near 1 Turnberry Lane, where they discovered the driver, identified as Mayk Gomez Pirir, unconscious behind the wheel.

An investigation determined that Pirir, of Main Street in Danbury, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. He was taken into custody and transported to the Newtown Police Department for processing.

Pirir was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving without a license. He was released on a $100 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on March 6.

Newtown Man Turns Himself in on DUI, Reckless Driving Charges

A Monroe man turned himself in to police Saturday on charges related to driving under the influence and reckless driving, authorities said.

According to the Newtown Police Department, Michael Truax, 60, of Wheeler Road, surrendered to police on Feb. 22 in connection with an investigation into a prior motor vehicle incident.

Truax was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

Details regarding the specific incident leading to the charges were not immediately available. Truax was processed at the Newtown Police Department, and his court date has not yet been released. He was released with a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on March 7.
