Eversource Crews to Conduct Aerial Inspections of Newtown and Sandy Hook Transmission Lines
Helicopter inspections of transmission lines are taking place this week in Sandy Hook and Newtown in order to reduce power outages.
SANDY HOOK, CT — Eversource is conducting aerial inspections of high voltage electrical equipment this week across Fairfield County, according to Mitch Gross, media spokesman for Eversource. Gross said there is no locked-in day-by-day schedule of which days they will be in which towns but that the public should be aware.
"They're in the Norwalk area this morning and Norwalk police have been getting a lot of questions from people," he said. The crews carefully go over the power lines with high resolution cameras. "Some sections take longer than others— it depends on the day, it depends on the weather," Gross told Patch.
Crews will be in Fairfield County Wednesday and Litchfield and Hartford County on Monday, weather permitting. Gross said the work could take until October to complete and that the standard schedule is 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily.

“Over a million customers in Connecticut depend on us every day for reliable electric service,” said Craig Hallstrom, Regional Electric Operations President at Eversource. “These helicopter inspections of our transmission lines are a crucial part of our commitment to reducing the frequency and duration of power outages.”
The company uses two black MD500 helicopters with registration numbers N371EE and N500LK. Overhead inspections of transmission lines and equipment help engineers detect potential problems in advance, allowing the company to schedule necessary maintenance and upgrades before reliability issues arise, according to a release.
