Household Hazardous Waste Day In Danbury Saturday; Newtown Included

Residents of Newtown and other nearby communities can participate in Danbury's Household Hazardous Waste drop-off on Saturday.

DANBURY, CT — Newtown residents are eligible to participate in Saturday's Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event in Danbury at the Public Works facility in Danbury at 53 Newtown Road.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and attendees are asked to place the hazardous materials in the back of their vehicles, then drive up to the site, and remain in their vehicles. Public Works staff, who will be wearing PPE, will retrieve the items from the rear of your vehicle.

  • Paints
  • Stains and Varnishes
  • Paint Thinners & Strippers
  • Wood Preservatives
  • Resins, Rosins & Adhesives
  • Polishes for Furniture, Floor & Metals
  • Cleaners for Rugs & Upholstery
  • Cleaners for Oven, Toilet Bowl & Drains
  • Swimming Pool Chemicals
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Pesticides, Herbicides, Insecticides (including Lawn Care Products)
  • Flea Powder
  • Moth Balls
  • Spot Removers
  • Dry Cleaning Solvents
  • Lighter Fluids
  • Septic Tank Degreasers
  • Engine Degreasers

Among the items that will not be accepted include:

  • Empty Aerosol Cans (put in garbage)
  • Household Batteries (put in garbage)
  • PCB Capacitors
  • Smoke Detectors
  • Auto Batteries & Tires
  • Motor Oil & Antifreeze (Recycle at Town Drop Off Center)
  • Ammunition, Fireworks, Explosives (Call the Police Dept.)
  • Radioactive Materials
  • Unknown Gases
  • Controlled Substances
  • Pathological Material
