The accused allegedly threatened to kill "everyone in the bank" during the robbery and was found with butcher knife.

NEWTOWN, CT — A man carrying a butcher knife was arrested after police say he robbed the Bank of America on Queen Street Thursday afternoon. John McCarthy, 63, of Bonnie Brae Drive was arrested at the Newtown Color Center by an off-duty police officer after he robbed the bank, police said.
A 911 caller told police at 2:34 p.m. that the suspect handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and would kill everyone in the bank. Police found McCarthy detained by off-duty officer Felicia Figol who was waiting for on-duty police to arrive.
McCarthy was found with the knife and $833 cash, police said. He was identified by bank employees and after police found $833 was missing from the teller's drawer.
