Melissa Joan Hart to Speak at Wear Orange Rally in Newtown

The event honors the third annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

NEWTOWN, CT — Several local groups will be participating in the third annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2 with an "Orange Walk" and a Wear Orange rallly. The Newtown Action Allianceannounced that it is partnering with Connecticut Against Gun Violence, the Enough Campaign, Greenwich Council to Prevent Gun Violence, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Sandy Hook Promise for the event, and Actress Melissa Joan Hart will be the keynote speaker for the event.

Hart, a Westport native, is famous for her role in the ABC series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and ABC Family's "Melissa & Joey"

The event consists of an "Orange Walk" from the Fairfield Hills campus to Edmond Town hall for the Wear Orange rally.

"Nearly half a million Americans will be killed or injured by guns by the 5th anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting this December," read the announcement. "Newtown is moving forward but Newtown has not moved on. We must continue to shed a light on the epidemic of gun violence in our nation to engage more Americans to make gun violence prevention a priority."

The walk will begin at 5 p.m. at the Fairfield Hills campus on June 2. The group encouraged those to honor victims and survivors of gun violence on June 2 by wearing orange.
