Newtown Baseball Team Seeing Success on the Diamond

The Newtown U13 Babe Ruth baseball team has seen much success this year and will now be heading to Vermont to play in the regional tournament, reports the News-Times.

The team, which made the Ripken 11 and 12-year-old regional tournaments the last two years, went 3-0 in pool play of the state tournament before advancing to the semifinals for a four-team, single-elimination dance.

Against Newington in Friday’s semifinal, Joe Pagett threw a complete game, leading his team to a 4-3 victory and an appearance in the state championship game against Simsbury.　

In the title game, Newtown outslugged a hard-hitting Simsbury squad, 9-6. Dan Mason picked up the win after going four innings and Jack Mulligan got the three-inning save.　

Up next is a trip to Winooski, VT for the regional tournament, which begins on Saturday.
