Newtown Burgesses Back Traffic Safety Proposals, Advance Sidewalk And Zoning Projects

Newtown Burgesses support traffic safety measures, advance Church Hill Road sidewalk work, and review zoning updates.

NEWTOWN — The Borough of Newtown Board of Burgesses endorsed several traffic safety proposals, advanced a sidewalk project, and reviewed zoning activity during its Aug. 12 meeting at Edmond Town Hall.

Warden Joseph Maher said the board supports a letter from resident Karen Banks urging the Police Commission to consider adding a rumble strip southbound at the flagpole intersection, installing flashing lights and permanent crosswalk signs at two Main Street crossings, and addressing sight-line concerns near the Meetinghouse. Maher will deliver the board’s endorsement to the commission in September.

Maher also reported that the borough will apply to be included on the town’s insurance policy and confirmed that an ordinance banning motorized bicycles and scooters has been finalized. A resident’s request for an exemption was denied.
