Newtown High School Student Dies Unexpectedly, Mourned By Community
The community is mourning the death of a Newtown High School student.
NEWTOWN, CT — The community is mourning the death of a Newtown High School student.
School officials announced Monday that Abby Greene died “suddenly and unexpectedly” last Thursday.
“Abby was a beautiful and well loved 18 year old - a senior at Newtown High School, class of 2026,” officials wrote in a post on the Newtown High School College & Career Center Facebook page. “Along with her parents Mark & Nanette, she was a member of Congregation Adath Israel, since age 5.”

A funeral service will be held at Congregation Adath Israel on Sunday.
“Our hearts are broken and we send our heartfelt condolences to the Greene family at this very sad time,” the post on Facebook reads.

The family has requested that donations in Abby’s memory can be made to Congregation Adath Israel, P.O. Box 623, Newtown, CT 06470.
An online meal train fundraiser has also been set up for the family.
“In the wake of a devastating loss, we are coming together to support the family of Abigail Greene during this incredibly difficult time of grief and remembrance,” organizers wrote on the page. “Abby would have graduated from Newtown HS this spring. She loved to travel, dance, and hang out with her friends and family.”
