Newtown Kennel Club Donates $15,000 To Newtown PD K-9 Unit

The donation will cover the purchase and training of a new police dog after the sudden loss of Police K-9 Officer Saint Michael.

From the Newtown Kennel Club: The Newtown Kennel Club (NKC) will donate $15,000 to the Newtown Department of Police Services K-9 Unit at the June 6, 2017 Police Commission meeting at Town Hall South at 6:30 p.m. This donation will cover the purchase and training of a new police dog after the sudden loss of the department’s Police K-9 Officer Saint Michael, who passed away in April.

“The partnership and support that has been developed over the years with the Newtown Kennel Club has allowed this agency to provide K9 services to the Town of Newtown. Without their continued support the program would most certainly have been in jeopardy of not continuing in such a n expeditious manner. The officers of this agency, as well as the citizens of Newtown are eternally thankful for the gracious support. We look forward to this continued community partnership.” said Newtown Chief of Police James Viadero.

“The Newtown Kennel Club has a long history of supporting Newtown’s K-9 Unit,” said NKC President Helene Nietsch. “The club donated to the purchase of Saint Michael and gave annual donations for his care, training, and well-being. Our hearts went out to Police Officer Felicia Figol, Saint Michael’s partner, and the Newtown community, for the tragic loss of our only Police K-9 Officer. We understand and support the important role the K-9 unit plays in the community and wanted to ensure that funding for another dog was not an obstacle to move forward.”
