Newtown Man's Gun Arrest Among Increasing Trend in Airports: TSA

A Newtown man was arrested after he tried to bring a revolver through a TSA security checkpoint.

EAST ELMHURST, NY — Officials say that the arrest of a Newtown man is part of a growing trend of airline passengers attempting to bring guns through TSA security checkpoints, reports the News Times. Over 80 guns were discovered during the two-week period when Steven B. Shaw, 61, was arrested for the criminal possession of a weapon on June 30.

The report further indicates that two weeks prior, 150 weapons were found in carry-ons and 128 of those were loaded. His arrest was the second time someone had tried to bring a gun to LaGuardia airport. Two guns were found at the airport all of last year.
