Newtown Parks & Rec Reviews Pet Memorial Proposal And Carnival Plans
Newtown Parks & Rec discusses pet memorial site, fall carnival plans, fee reviews, and summer program highlights.
NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Parks and Recreation Commission on Aug. 12 discussed relocating a proposed pet memorial project, reviewed upcoming events and facility needs, and received updates on summer programs and maintenance work.
Representatives from Mt. Pleasant Hospital for Animals proposed placing a pet memorial at Orchard Hill after zoning challenges arose with an earlier plan to locate it near the Dog Park. Commissioners discussed forming a committee of local organizations to oversee the project, create a maintenance plan, and outline financial responsibilities.
The panel also reviewed its Capital Improvement Plan. While no major structural changes were expected, Chair Clinton DePaolo suggested moving up replacement of the Treadwell Playground. Plans for additional pickleball courts may be delayed due to recent upgrades. A vote on the plan is expected in September.
