Newtown Police Log: Disorderly Conduct, Firearm Threat, And DUI Cases Reported

Newtown police handled several incidents this week, including a firearm threat, DUI case, and disorderly conduct.

NEWTOWN, CT — Police responded to several incidents in recent days, including a firearm threat at a Riverside Road duplex, a DUI case on Great Ring Road, and two separate disorderly conduct investigations in Sandy Hook and Newtown.

Riverside Road, Sandy Hook:

Officers responded to a disturbance involving threats and a firearm at a duplex on Riverside Road on Oct. 12. Police said a resident reported that a man outside was yelling threats while holding a metal pipe and was possibly armed with a shotgun.

Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect inside the home and gave verbal commands. When the man reached toward his waistband, officers detained him safely and recovered a Glock 17 replica BB gun. A Winchester Model 1200 shotgun was later located inside the residence.

The suspect, George Lockwood, 62, of Sandy Hook, was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace, and failure to secure a firearm. He was released on a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 14.

Great Ring Road, Sandy Hook:

On Oct. 12, Brian Joseph Engelke, 44, of Sandy Hook, turned himself in at the Newtown Police Department on an active warrant connected to a prior investigation. He was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Engelke was released on a non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 23. Police said the charges stemmed from an incident investigated in August.

Johnny Appleseed Drive, Sandy Hook:

Officers were called to a disturbance at a residence on Johnny Appleseed Drive around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 16. Following an on-scene investigation, Danielle McCarthy, 36, of Sandy Hook, was charged with disorderly conduct. She was held on a $500 cash bond and assigned a court appearance the next day in Danbury Superior Court.

Poverty Hollow Road, Newtown:

On Oct. 17, Newtown police served a warrant on Robert Peschko, 49, of Newtown, stemming from a prior investigation. Police said Peschko resisted officers during the encounter, leading to a charge of interfering with an officer added to the previous two counts of risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

Peschko was held on a $35,000 bond and was scheduled for to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 20.
