Newtown PD Log: Hit-And-Runs, Tree Strike, School Traffic Crash, And Multiple Collisions
Newtown Police responded to tree strikes, hit-and-runs, school traffic crashes, and several collisions in early December.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown Police handled a series of collisions, including multiple hit-and-run investigations, a tree strike, and a school-traffic crash between Nov. 20 and Dec. 4, according to newly released reports.
Tree Falls Onto Moving Vehicle on Sugar Street
No injuries were reported after a tree fell from the northbound side of Sugar Street and struck the hood of an eastbound Audi around 5:34 p.m. on Dec. 4. Police issued no enforcement in the incident.
Three-Car Crash and Pole Strike on Glen Road
A vehicle traveling north on Glen Road on Dec. 3 crossed the centerline, left the roadway, and crashed into two parked vehicles in the lot of 5 Glen Road before striking a Frontier Communications pole. The driver then left the scene but was later identified. Police charged the driver with evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane. No injuries occurred to the occupants of the two parked cars.

Parking-Lot Collision on Church Hill Road
A car backing out of a space at 62 Church Hill Road struck a parked vehicle on Nov. 20 and left the scene. The driver was later identified through security video and license plate readers. Due to minor damage, police did not pursue an evasion charge. No injuries were reported.
Hit-And-Run on South Main Street Near Bryan Lane
Two southbound vehicles were sideswiped when an unknown vehicle passed on the right in a no-passing zone and struck the front of another car on Nov. 25. The striking vehicle did not stop. No injuries were reported.

Hit-And-Run at South Main Street and Elm Drive
A Ford Mustang was found stopped with its hazard lights on by an officer on Nov. 27, after it had been struck on the passenger side by another vehicle that failed to stop at the South Main Street–Elm Drive intersection. Debris from the other vehicle was recovered, but lacked identifying information. The driver was not injured. Police are reviewing nearby security footage.
Mailbox Destroyed on Bridle Path Trail
An unknown vehicle struck and destroyed a mailbox near a driveway on Bridle Path Trail on Dec. 2. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
Vehicle Rolls Into Garage Door on Washbrook Road
A driver exiting a vehicle in a Washbrook Road driveway on Nov. 29 reported that the vehicle rolled forward and struck a garage door before leaving the area. The operator was later identified. No injuries occurred.
Rear-End Collision on Currituck Road
Two northbound vehicles collided on Dec. 2 when one slowed for a turning car and the vehicle behind it skidded, crossing the centerline and making rear-end contact. No injuries were reported. Police issued a warning for following too closely.
School-Hour Crash Near Newtown High School
A Subaru driver reaching into the backseat for a school bag accelerated into the rear of a stopped Jeep in school traffic on Berkshire Road on Dec. 1. No injuries were reported, though both vehicles sustained functional damage. The driver was cited for following too closely.
Two Injured in South Main Street Collision at Cedar Hill Road
A vehicle stopped at the Cedar Hill Road stop sign pulled onto South Main Street on Dec. 3 and was struck by a southbound Volkswagen. The impact caused disabling damage to both vehicles. Two occupants of the Volkswagen were treated by ambulance personnel and taken to Danbury Hospital. The turning driver was issued an infraction for a stop-sign violation.
