Newtown Police Seek Dirt Bike Rider In Crash That Seriously Injured Horseback Rider

Newtown police ask for help identifying a dirt bike rider after a crash on Platts Hill Road injured a horseback rider.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a dirt bike rider involved in a Sept. 1 incident that left a horseback rider seriously injured.

Police said the crash occurred around noon on Platts Hill Road, where a local resident was riding with a neighbor when a dirt bike — described as white or possibly green — approached at a high rate of speed.

Despite the riders’ attempts to signal the motorcyclist to slow down, the operator reportedly revved the engine and passed closely by and the victim’s horse became startled and bucked her off, causing her to lose consciousness and suffer a broken neck, police said.
