Newtown Police Warn Of Craigslist Scams
Police are seeing an increase in scams stemming from craigslist sales.

NEWTOWN, CT — Local police are warning residents after seeing an increase in Craigslist scams around town. Police say individuals have accepted bank checks for sold property, which ended up being fake.
"While the bank checks appeared to be real, they have been found to have been forged checks," wrote Patrol Officer Maryhelen McCarthy in a press release. "When in doubt, accept cash for your merchandise."

According to fraudguides.com, the top three Craigslists scams include the buyer wanting to be paid via cashier's check, U.S. Postal Service money order, western union or escrow service.
