Newtown Youth And Family Services To Host Annual Breakfast
The event will feature a motivational speaker who will discuss the challenges he faced growing up with an autism spectrum disorder.

Newtown, CT- On Tuesday, September 26, th Newtown Youth and Family Services will host its Annual Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at 8:00 am at Michaels at the Grove. This year’s guest speaker will be Anthony Ianni, a motivational speaker who will talk about facing challenges associated with having autism and dealing with bullying. Ianni was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder at the age of 4 and was a victim of bullying as a child. He overcame many barriers growing up and became a walk-on basketball player at Michigan State University. Ianni played in two Big Ten Championships and the 2010 Final Four. “We are honored to have Anthony speak to our community about his perseverance and accomplishments, his story is a great example for all people regardless of the specific challenges they face” says Candice Bohr, Executive Director. Anthony has pledged his life and career to help those who face similar challenges. He has been invited to tell his story and share his message across the country and has inspired countless individuals to “LYD”- Live Your Dreams.
This year NYFS will recognize the accomplishments of community members, local businesses, and Staff for their dedication to the community and to NYFS. NYFS will be honoring First selectman, Patricia Llodra with the “Heart of the Community Award”. Other 2017 award winners include - The H.D. Bassett award will be presented to Newtown Savings Bank, the Gail Smith Award will be given to Jeff Tolson, the Outstanding Youth Award will be presented to Danielle DePinto and the Spirit of Community Award will be presented to The Jessica Rekos Foundation. “The outcomes and accomplishments we have achieved throughout the years would not have been possible without the support and commitment of the community” said Bohr. “The support we have received has assisted NYFS to continue to help the community and allows us to offer quality programs throughout Greater Newtown Area.” To reserve your seat visit NYFS at www.newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org.
