Obituary: Helen L. Hunt-Backman (Krusky), 96, Of Newtown
Helen met the love of her life, Gordon Backman, when they were 60 years old and eloped soon thereafter.

NEWTOWN, CT — Helen L. Hunt-Backman (Krusky), 96, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, with her children by her side. Helen was born in Bridgewater on February 21, 1928 to Laura and Nicholas Krusky, the oldest of three daughters.
Helen started her career as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone Company and later was a secretary at Bard-Parker, Canterbury School, and Rutland Mental Health.

Helen met the love of her life, Gordon Backman, when they were 60 years old and eloped soon thereafter. They spent the next 34 years traveling the globe, playing endless rounds of golf at Cross Creek in Ft. Myers, FL and enjoying retirement together until his death in December 2022. Helen was also predeceased by her sisters Margaret Waddell & Marion Barker and former husbands, Carl Anton, H. Theodore Conroy and I. Everett Hunt.
Helen will be dearly missed by her children, Larry Conroy and his wife Betsy, Sharon Vaghi (Conroy) and her husband Paul, both of Bethel. Helen will also be missed by her seven grandchildren, Suzanne, Kristina, Joshua, Laura, Danielle, Sarah and Michael; and her eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Samantha, Theo, Lucas, Carter, Hayden, Maci and Mila, among other cherished family.

Helen spent the last 17 months living in Newtown at Maplewood Senior Living. She especially enjoyed watercolor painting and socializing with her new friends at the various activities provided. Most of all she loved being closer to family and always lit up when they would visit with her at the puzzle table or in the pub.
A Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great in Danbury on Saturday April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours.
