Newtown police responded to a series of obscene prank phone calls at multiple schools in town.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown police responded to a series of obscene prank phone calls made Wednesday afternoon to both the police department and multiple schools in town.
Officers were dispatched to each affected school and determined there was no immediate threat. Authorities said there will be an increased police presence at Newtown schools for the remainder of the day as a precaution.
An investigation into the source of the calls is ongoing. Police credited school staff and the superintendent with helping to minimize disruption to students and faculty.
