NEWTOWN, CT — Election Day on Nov. 4 is fast approaching, and there are a number of key races on the ballot.

Patch reached out to candidates for office to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing their towns.

Occupation: Real Estate Developer

Family: I moved to Newtown to be near my niece and nephew who were raised in nearby Redding. I was happy to be part of their lives and close to them as they grew.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? Many members of my family have been state and local officials

Previous public office, appointive or elective: Yes, I was elected to Planning and Zoing in 2023 and spent two years on Newtown's Legislative Council

Why are you seeking this office? I have a professional background in architecture, land planning, and real estate finance. As a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, I would contribute to the evaluation of project proposals and the application of zoning regulations. Most recently, I was a member of the Legislative Council, where I have developed an understanding of the legislative process, municipal codes, and the town charter.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: Affordable housing is unavailable for our young families and seniors. Increasing costs and inflation have made Newtown out of reach for many, pushing seniors out and creating a barrier to entry for the young. Our community needs to find a financially feasible housing solution that reflects the look and feel of Newtown. I intend to pursue a viable solution that fits into the town's Economic Development Plan.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? As a real estate development professional, I have partnered in joint venture projects between the public and private sectors. I understand the financial interests of both parties and have achieved negotiated agreements that serve both the community and investors.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign? Tax increases are affecting the quality of life here in Newtown. Many seniors are struggling to meet their daily expenses, which are compounded by rising property taxes. I will actively promote economic development and attract businesses to our industrial zone, thereby increasing our tax base.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? I have more than 20 years of experience presenting commercial development projects before municipal planning and zoning boards throughout the country. I know what wins approvals and how the public responds to proposals that serve their communities. As an advocate for the community, I know what to expect from private interests and how to negotiate for the public interest.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you? Know the facts! I had a mentor who taught me that a thorough understanding of state statutes, municipal building code, and public opinion is the foundation of a winning argument.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions? I have learned that preservation of the natural features of our community is paramount to the residents of Newtown. We have open space, rivers and lakes, natural hiking trails, and conservation zones that need protection. In my efforts to create a more robust tax base, I will also work to preserve the natural character of Newtown.
