NEWTOWN, CT — Election Day on Nov. 4 is fast approaching, and there are a number of key races on the ballot.
Patch reached out to candidates for office to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing their towns.

What office are you seeking? Board of Finance

Occupation: Sales Consultant (31 yrs)
Family: I grew up in Newtown and went through the school system myself. My wife of (almost) 41 years, Sue, and I made our home here and raised our two sons, Brendon (39) and Ryan (34), who also went through the Newtown Schools.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? My wife, Sue is the Asst. Republican Registrar of Voters for the town. And also, a member of the Newtown Community Center Staff.
Previous public office, appointive or elective: I am serving my second term on the Board of Finance and currently hold the position of Chairman, with terms from 2021-2023 and 2023-2025
Why are you seeking this office? With my past and current experience on the Board of Finance, I am committed to continuing my work on behalf of all residents.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: The most pressing issue facing our community is affordability and I will continue to demand fiscal responsibility to ensure that our tax dollars are spent wisely. By carefully monitoring spending and budgets. I will work to ensure taxpayer funds are used effectively to minimize the tax burden
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? I bring years of valuable experience to the role. Having grown up in Newtown and lived here for over 50 years, I have witnessed the many changes our town has undergone. This lifelong connection gives me a unique perspective and a deep understanding of our community that sets me apart from other candidates.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign? I support our emergency services, police, first responders and schools, recognizing the vital role they play in keeping our community safe and strong. I also will promote investments that encourage smart growth in Newtown while preserving the small-town character that makes our community so special.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? I have served two terms on the Board of Finance (2021-2023 and 2023-2025) including serving as Vice Chair during both terms and currently as Chair. During this time, I have served on several key committees, including BOE CFF/CIP subcommittee and ARPA and have twice participated in negotiations for the BOE Teachers contract.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you? In life, staying true to your values, listening more than you speak and treating others with respect builds trust and meaningful relationships.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions? In public service, these principles are essential: always act in the best interest of the people you represent, make decisions based on fairness and facts rather than personal gain, and remain transparent and accountable.
