Police: Roads Will Close May 5 for Newtown Green Ribbon Ride

Police say Route 34, Wasserman Way and Route 25 will close for the motorcycle ride to raise funds for Sandy Hook victims.

 

Police announced Monday that several major Newtown thoroughfares will close on the morning and early afternoon of Sunday, May 5 for the Green Ribbon motorcycle ride to raise funds for Sandy Hook families.

The ride will enter Newtown on Route 34 at the Monroe town line, head west to Wasserman Way, then turn south on Route 25 back toward Monroe. Police say these roads will be closed from about 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. as the ride progresses.

The police-escorted Green Ribbon Ride is scheduled involve as many as 3,000 motorcyclists. It will raise funds for ten Newtown funds, local children's charities, and directly to the families of victims of the shooting, as well as police, emergency and fire departments, the Center for Women & Families and Al's Angels, a Fairfield-based children's charity.

The ride is sponsored by all five Newtown fire departments.

The Newtown Police Department reminds residents to plan ahead to avoid delays, and asks pedestrians to stay off the roadway during the event.
