Possible Heavy Rains Heading Newtown’s Way, Gloomy Weekend Ahead

Most of Connecticut is in the midst of a severe drought and new details on when the rain arrives and how long it will hang around.

NEWTOWN, CT — It’s going to be gray and chilly outside for the next several days in southern Connecticut and since most of the area is in the midst of a severe drought, we might as well get some rain out of this right It looks like southern Connecticut will see steady and heavier periods of rain move through the area beginning well after midnight Thursday and continuing all day on Friday. Saturday now looks rainy, at least at times, and even Sunday, too.

The sun will make its return just in time for the work week on Monday. The big question is how much rain will we get from all of this gloomy weather? Right now, the National Weather Service is saying the area will see up to three quarters of an inch of rain on Friday and up to a quarter of an inch on Thursday night.

As for Saturday and Sunday, no estimates have yet to be made on rainfall totals. Areas of the state are running between 5-8 inches below where they should be for rainfall. The state of Connecticut is urging residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce water demand by 10 percent; reductions in lawn watering are encouraged as the best way to meet conservation goals. WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said “Gray skies and cool temperatures for the rest of this week! Not much rain until we get to Friday, Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures the next few days only in the low to mid 60s at best.”
