Seen Around Town: Painting The Rooster Red

A few years ago, a statue of a rooster -- Newtown's iconic mascot -- sprung up outside the offices of Orthodontist Dr. Joshua Baum, on the corner of Church Hill Road and Queen Street. Today Patch caught Baum's employees giving the noble bird a touch-up.

"He was all rusty," said employee Sylviane Lamore. "So we just sanded him down and touched him up, and now we're putting the finishing touches on him!"

Lamore was painting the rooster's crest and wattle bright red when Patch stopped by.

"We decided to keep him the color he is," she said, "although we thought about painting him green!"

Baum's office has had the rooster about two years, employees said.
