Serious Motor Vehicle Crash In Newtown Sends 3 To Hospital
Three people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash on Main Street in Newtown; police continue to investigate.
NEWTOWN, CT — Three people were taken to the hospital Friday evening after a two-vehicle crash on Main Street near Academy Lane, according to Newtown police.
The crash was reported at about 6:31 p.m. Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder, and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance responded, and mutual aid was called in from Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company and Danbury Fire Medic because of multiple injuries.
Police said a silver 2019 Nissan Altima was traveling east on Main Street toward Academy Lane when it crossed the double yellow line into the westbound lane. The front end of the Nissan struck the driver’s side front end of a gray 2026 RAM pickup traveling west between Martin Street and Academy Lane.

The Nissan’s driver suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated by firefighters before being taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital. No one else was in that vehicle.
The RAM’s driver sustained moderate injuries, and a front-seat passenger had minor injuries, police said. Both were transported by Newtown Ambulance to Danbury Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department. Sgt. Lorancaitis, Officer Wlasuk and Officer Morelli are leading the investigation.
