Sheryl Crow Writes Song Honoring Sandy Hook Victims

Proceeds will go to a local group that works to educate the public on the signs of gun violence.

NEWTOWN,CT ― One of country music's biggest stars released a song honoring the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and proceeds from the song will go to a local Sandy Hook Group. Sheryl Crow released "The Dreaming Kind" Monday, and the $1 download will benefit Sandy Hook Promise.

Crow wrote the song following the tragic Las Vegas shooting earlier this year that claimed the lives of 58 people and left over 500 people injured. She debuted the song on Good Morning America Monday.

"I didn’t know what I was going to do with it and then suddenly we were presented with the Sandy Hook Promise and the opportunity to have a song for it," Crow said Monday on "Good Morning America, according to ABC News." "I said, ‘I just have written this song which is basically about what they went through.'"

Sandy Hook Promise released a PSA entitled "Tomorrow's News," which raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of gun violence. The group helps raise awareness of the signs of gun violence, and helps equip people with the tools to stop it.

“Tomorrow’s News” continues the conversation about the importance of knowing the signs of someone at risk and taking action. In this video, viewers’ perspective of a mass shooting will be upended as they see how easy it is to miss the signs or grapple with what to do when the signs are there,” said Mark Barden, Managing Director and co-founder of Sandy Hook Promise, and father of Daniel, who was 7-years old when killed in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. “The work of Sandy Hook Promise focuses on preventing gun violence before it starts. “Tomorrow’s News” is a powerful reminder that everyone can prevent a tragedy when they know the signs.”
