Spa To Shutter In December After Over 8 Years In Newtown

NEWTOWN — The owner of a salt spa in Newtown has announced she is hanging up her halogenerator.

Katherine Hansen, proprietor of the Newtown Salt Spa at 43 South Main Street, told her customers the spa will close permanently Dec. 20.

The reveal on the spa website called the 8-and-a-half-year journey "a fulfilling and rewarding experience."

"Since June 2017, it has been my privilege to serve you and provide you a space for relaxation and wellness," she wrote. "I am incredibly grateful for your steadfast support, loyalty, and friendship."

Worldwide, the salt spa industry has grown rapidly alongside the broader wellness movement. After chalking up $47 billion in revenues in 2007, the number of spas has grown to 191,348 globally, earning $137 billion in revenues. This represents a 6.9 percent annual revenue growth rate from 2007-2023, according to trade site Global Wellness Institute.
