Teenage Girl Assaulted In Her Own Yard In Newtown: Police

NEWTOWN, CT — Police are investigating after a teenage girl was assaulted on her own property Wednesday afternoon. The 16-year-old girl told police that an unknown man pushed her to the ground and ran away on Toddy Hill Road.

Police began investigating a report of a suspicious incident of 1:26 p.m. The victim told police the man, who she thought was a salesman, approached her and asked her how old she was. When she said she was going to get her mother, the man pushed her down and ran down the driveway towards the road.

A State Police K9 unit and Newtown police searched the area, but the suspect was not found.

The Newtown Police Department is committed to the safety of the entire community, its students and residents," wrote the department in a press release. "We advise the community not to rely on social media or rumors as it can cause unneeded anxiety. If you have any questions in regards to this non-school related incident please contact the Newtown Police Department."

The suspect was described as a tall white man with brown hair and clean shaven, he was wearing a black button down shirt and black pants. Anyone with information is urged to call Newton Police.
