Town Looking for Interested Residents for Memorial Commission

Would you like to help the town decide what memorials should be part of the community's remembrance of the Dec. 14 shooting? The town is looking for interested residents to join the Permanent Memorial Commission.

"We're looking for people to represent the community," said First Selectman Pat Llodra. The commission will provide the Board of Selectmen with "recommendations on the nature, location, and financial details and ramifications of memorials for their consideration and approval," according to a town release.

They will also conduct public meetings, and meet with "families of victims, survivors, Sandy Hook School faculty and staff, Sandy Hook School parents along with appropriate Newtown agencies and commissions, and the public at large."

"We'll talk about scope, but there's no particular timetable," said Ann Alzapiedi, who added the group would not be ultimately in charge of carrying through with any future memorials. "Are you interested in any information you think the Board of Selectmen should know? We're interested in anyone who would like to serve on the commission."

According to a town release, interested candidates should send an email by June 17 to Alzapiedi@genewtown.com. Additionally, they can write the Town of Newtown, First Selectman’s Office, c/o Anne Alzapiedi, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT 06470. The town asks candidates to include their name, address, phone number, and any other pertinent information they would like to share with the Board of Selectmen.
