Traffic Stop Leads to Marijuana, Shoplifting Arrest: Newtown PD

Police say the woman was stopped for "concerning" registration plates.

NEWTOWN, CT — A local woman was arrested after she was pulled over for "concerning" registration plates, according to Newtown Police. Meghan J. Freeman, 34, of Sandy Hook was released on a $1,000 surety bond on several charges including marijuana possession and shoplifting.

Police say they stopped Freeman's vehicle on Walnut Tree Hill Rd. and found that her license was suspended. Police say they found a small amount of marijuana and pieces of drug paraphernalia.

Freeman was also found to have shoplifted from the Big Y on Queen Street.

She was charged with failure to keep plates readable, driving with a suspended license, possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, possession of under 1/2 ounce of cannabis type substance and larceny in the sixth degree.

Freeman is due in court on Aug. 8.
