Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Newtown. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.


Moon Over Buffalo

When: Friday, May 24 - 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 25 - 8:00 p.m.; Sunday, May 26 - 2:00 p.m.
Where: Town Players of Newtown, 18 Orchard Hill Rd., Newtown, CT 06470
What: The Town Players of Newtown are performing “Moon Over Buffalo” on select dates now through June 1. The production follows a husband and wife actor duo struggling to perform. Tickets are available for matinee shows for $28.75 and evening performances for $33.75.

Bethel Blooms Craft Fair

When: Saturday, May 25 - 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Where: Municipal Center Lawn, 1 School St., Bethel, CT 06801
What: The Bethel Blooms Craft Fair, a long-standing favorite, will be held on the front lawn of the Municipal Center. The free event will showcase a variety of crafters across multiple categories, offering visitors a chance to explore unique handmade goods.

Cheeseboard Making Class

When: Saturday, May 25 - 6:00 p.m.
Where: Aquila’s Nest Vineyards, 56 Pole Bridge Rd., Newtown, CT 0648
What: Charcuterie fans will be able to learn to make cheeseboards for $65 at Aquila’s Nest. Participants will receive a platter with meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, plus a jar of honey and preserves for the spread. The event includes detailed instructions and a visual guide to create a beautiful—and delicious—board.

Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show

When: Sunday, May 26 - 6:00 p.m.
Where: Aquila’s Nest Vineyards, 56 Pole Bridge Rd., Newtown, CT 0648
What: Join "Little Lies," an eight-person Fleetwood Mac tribute band from Boston, for an evening of mesmerizing vocals and intricate melodies. Experience the iconic hits from the "Rumours" album and more, as the music transports you through a memorable journey of drama and romance. Tickets to see the band are $35.
