I-84 exit ramps in Newtown will close overnight March 26 for wrong-way driver safety work. Detours and alternate routes will be in effect.
NEWTOWN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation will close several exit ramps along Interstate 84 in Newtown overnight on Wednesday, March 26, to perform wrong-way driver preventative maintenance and recertification work.
Closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will affect Exit 10 eastbound and westbound, Exit 9 westbound, and Exit 11 eastbound and westbound. Detours will be in place directing drivers to alternate routes, including Exits 8 and 13, Route 6, Route 25, and Church Hill Road.
The closures are part of a project which aims to improve safety by reducing the risk of wrong-way driving incidents. CTDOT advised that the schedule may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances and reminded motorists to drive with caution in the work zones.
