North Branford Officials Discuss Pros And Cons Of Food Trucks

NORTH BRANFORD, CT - The issue of whether to allow food trucks in North Branford was the subject of a discussion at the most recent Planning and Zoning Commission.

Currently, Town Planner Carey Duques said there are no written regulations concerning food trucks. She said that’s problematic because she’s received some inquiries.

Commission members then wondered what action would be appropriate, some suggesting there could be an ordinance against food trucks on town property and others suggesting the town research how neighboring towns handle the sometimes controversial issue.

Food truck controversies have taken on different stages in neighboring towns in recent years.

In most recent years a food truck had to change its location in Guilford because it was parked on a state versus town road.

And in Madison the issue, years ago, became controversial for two reasons: some argued it disrupted the character of the town, while restaurant owners said it took away business from tax paying establishments.
