Obituary: Arthur Francis Anderson, 89, of Northford
Art, known as well-liked and hard-working, was a devoted family man and a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 76 in North Haven.
NORTHFORD, CT - (From Washington Memorial Funeral Home) Arthur Francis Anderson, 89, of Northford, born in New Haven, March 23, 1932, the middle child of Frederick and Mildred (Mariz) Anderson passed away, Wednesday, February 9, 2022.
He was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Thomas Anderson, for 57 years before her passing in2009.
He attended Boardman Trade School and Hillhouse High School before joining the Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 76 of North Haven. He was a well-liked and hard-working man who usually worked two jobs to support his family. He worked for Cooley Chevrolet, Atlantic Richfield garage, Knudsen Brothers Dairy & Parkview Garage, and retired as a route driver for Macke/Service America after 26 years there.
Art found time to be an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 463 in Northford for decades, staying on as a committee member for years mentoring generations of boys, many of whom attained the rank of Eagle Scout including his son, Joe and grandsons John Scallion and Joe Jr. among them. Art was also a member of the Camp Sequassen Maintenance Committee for some time.
Most recently, he enjoyed many little trips out visiting interesting places, going for walks, and wine tasting with his daughter Judy.
He is survived by his children Judith (Malcolm) Taylor of Hamden and Joseph (Deborah) Anderson of North Branford and grandchildren, Mary (Craig) Mealmaker, John (Jocelyn Lillis) Scallion, Joseph Anderson, Jr. and Sarah Anderson.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his sister Barbara (Norman) Abramovitz and his brother Richard (Joan) Anderson.
Art’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 13th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Monday, February 14th at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Church (St. Ambrose Parish), 1331 Middletown Ave., Northford.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
