Two Quick Goals Lift North Branford To Field Hockey Championship
The Thunderbirds shut out Stonington 2-0 Saturday to win their first state field hockey title since 2017.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Two goals in an 83-second span of the second quarter proved to be all the North Branford High School field hockey team needed to secure its fifth state championship, as the Thunderbirds blanked Stonington 2-0 in the Class S finals Saturday at Joseph Cottone Field at Wethersfield High School.
After a scoreless first quarter, North Branford got on the board just over three minutes into the second period on a goal by Olivia Toto, assisted by Mia Oliverio. Less than a minute and a half later, Oliverio found the back of the cage, with an assist from Payton Kamienski.
The Thunderbirds captured state gold for the first time since 2017. All five titles dating back to 1980 have been helmed by legendary coach Babby Nuhn.
