Alert Neighbor Helps Limit Damage In House Fire: North Haven FD

The residents were controlling the fire with a garden hose when crews arrived at the scene, according to fire officials.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — An alert neighbor is being credited with preventing a house fire from becoming worse and limiting damage to the home, according to fire officials.

The North Haven 911 center received multiple calls for a house on fire in the area of Ball Road around 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to officials.

Officials said the first-arriving units found the outside of a house burning with the occupants controlling the fire with a garden hose.

“E1 under the command of Captain Spoldi took control and finalized extinguishment,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “Additional responding units were assigned overhaul and interior search of the building. Fortunately there was only light smoke inside the structure and the fire did not extend through the walls. While the house had solar panels on the roof, they were able to be shut off safely and do not appear to have contributed to the fire.”

The following units responded: E1, E2, T1, R1, West Ridge E6 and the on-call chief officer, according to officials.

“The North Haven Fire Department and the occupants would like to give credit to an alert neighbor who observed the fire from across the street and alerted the occupants of the fire as they called 911,” officials wrote. “Their quick actions prevented this fire from becoming much worse and limited the damage. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the North Haven Fire Marshal’s Office.
