NORTH HAVEN, CT — Despite losing her primary challenge in Tuesday’s election, Sally Buemi has confirmed that she will be on the ballot in the November election and seeking a seventh term on the North Haven Board of Selectmen.

Buemi, the incumbent Third Selectman, lost to endorsed Democratic candidate David Cohen in Tuesday’s primary by a vote of 767 to 298, according to unofficial results from the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office.

Despite the loss, Buemi will be seeking re-election as a petitioning candidate in the municipal election.

“I congratulate David Cohen for his Democratic Primary victory,” Buemi said in a statement. “I want to thank all the Democrats who voted in this Primary. However, the battle for the Third Selectman seat is not over. In June, I filed with the Secretary of State an application to be a petitioning candidate for the office of Third Selectman. I obtained the necessary petition signatures by the July 31 deadline. As a result, I will be on the ballot in the November 4th General Election, seeking re-election. I believe very strongly that I am the most qualified candidate to serve as Third Selectman for the next two years.

“I filed this petition to ensure a place on the ballot. Although I will remain a registered Democrat, I will be on the November ballot, but not affiliated with any party. Most voters are aware of my many positive contributions to the Town for the past 12 years. Most voters know I have worked very hard and collaboratively with my colleagues on the Board of Selectmen, but that I often offer other points of view. I have enjoyed the support of Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated voters alike, which is essential for any local elected official. I am confident that the North Haven voters will support my candidacy on November 4th as they have done for so many years.”
