Car Fire Spreads To Brush On Route 15 In North Haven: Officials

The driver reported experiencing a mechanical issue just before seeing smoke and trying to get off the highway to safety, officials said.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A driver was uninjured after a car fire that closed the Exit 63 ramp on Route 15 South in North Haven for about 45 minutes on Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded around 10 a.m. to a report of a fully involved vehicle fire on the exit ramp.

“Engine 1 made a fast attack off tank water, 2nd due Engine 2 arrived on scene and provided water to E1 and assisted in extinguishing a brush fire that caught from the vehicle,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “The driver of the vehicle was uninjured but shaken after the incident. The driver reported experiencing a mechanical issue just prior to seeing smoke and tried to get off the highway to safety.

“The vehicle is a complete loss and was towed off site by Nelcon. CSP remained on site for traffic control. The exit ramp was closed for approximately 45 minutes due to vehicle removal and cleanup.”
