'Driven And Mature': Star Student In North Haven

We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in her town.

This submission comes from Kristy, who nominated her daughter, Ava, a 12th grader in North Haven.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Kristy, who nominated her daughter, Ava, a 12th grader in North Haven.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Ava has maintained an A average all throughout her school years. She is 9th in her senior class and will attend NC State next year to study biological sciences. While maintaining a 4.7 GPA, she is also the captain of the lacrosse team and a competitive dancer. Ava also works two jobs— one at a day care and one at Dino’s seafood. All the while, she makes time for her friends and family. We are so proud of Ava and her hard work!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

While recovering from ACL surgery, she was in physical therapy. Recently, her physical therapist told me that he works with a lot of teens, and yet has never met such a driven and mature teenager. He said I should be so proud of Ava, which of course I am!

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Ava!
